General Description:
Jasmine is basically loving for all ages but the oil have so many medicinal uses and aromatherapy uses too. Many people of the world are using it in their perfume formulations and making aromatherapy blends too.
The leaves of the Jasmine is also very useful and calming to the skin and face. The Oil of Jasmine is one of the expensive oil like other flower oils. It help one to be in confidence, remove depression and relax deeply. It also improve the skin’s elasticity and help to remove stretch marks and scars.
Oil properties: Jasmine Essential oil has a sweet , exotic and very rich floral tone.
Origin of Jasmine Oil : The Jasmine Oil is originated in India in ancient time. By and by it spreads all over the world. Now jasmine flower is the National flower of Indonetia. Jasmine is also spread across Europe and East Asia but if one consider the tope note and Medicinal properties , Indian Jasmine have the most.
Around 4000 Kgs of flower required for extraction of the Jasmine Oil using Hydro distillation. Solvent extration required 50000 count of flower to make the concrete and then extract the oil using solvent extraction.
Jasmine is an everygreen tree but the flower comes in Summers, There are two places of Jasmine in India. North India, where the Jasmine is called “Chameli”, It have a lot of oil in it and this is the only region where hydro distilled oil of jasmine can be produced. In South India, it is only used for making absolute. The all jasmine family is white coloured. In turkey the stem of Jasmine plant is used for makinf ropes , leaves and flower tops are used for making gree tea etc.
Extraction: The Jasmine Absolute Oil is produced using the below steps.
First the journey starts from concrete making which is made by using solvent extraction, after which the absolute result by saperation of alcohol from the concerte.
The Waxes and Other impurities are extracted by using the freezing point operation.
Chemical composition: The Major components are as follows:
1. 25 – 30% –> Benzyl Acetate
2. 17 – 20% –> Benzyl Benzoate
3. 3 – 5 % –> Geranyl linalool
4. 7 – 10% –> (z)- Jasmone
5. 5 – 7% –> Methyl Anthranilate
6. <1% –> Indole
7. 7 – 13% –>Phytol etc,..
Precautions :
Jasmine oil is non-toxic, non-irritant and generally non-sensitizing, although some people do have an allergic reaction to the oil. Due to its emmenagogue properties it should not be used in pregnancy. Using too much of this oil could impede concentration, as it is a deeply relaxing oil.
