Camphor Oil

Camphor oil is extracted from the root stumps, branches and the chipped wood of the Camphor tree. This tree is an active member of the Lauraceae plant family. Camphor tree grows up to a maximum height of 30 feet tall or 100 m high. It is an evergreen tree that bears young leaves which are red in color. These leaves turn dark green when they are mature. Camphor tree is indigenous to China, Taiwan, Southern Japan, Indochina and Southeast China. The flowers of this tree are fragrant and small in size. These aromatic flowers are yellow in color. The Camphor flowers are followed by the red berries that are oval in shape. Each and every part of this tree including the leaves, stem, twigs, wood and the roots have numerous health benefits. Camphor is cultivated in many parts of the world for Camphor oil, camphor and timber. This tree is popularly used for preparing incense, wooden products and many other herbal remedies. In the Japanese colonial era, the major industry in Taiwan was the production of Camphor and the shipment of it in a solid and waxy form. Camphor oil is extracted from this tree by steam distillation method. The extracted oil is rectified under vacuum and filter pressed for better use. After this process, camphor oil is produced into three fractions namely white, yellow and brown camphor.
